Clinical Evidence – Randomised Clinical Trials

Here you will find a summary of the eight randomised controlled trials involving the use of the CardioQ™ for targeted volume management. Each of these trials reported significant benefits related to the use of the CardioQ™ in the intra-operative setting when compared to standard clinical practice in a variety of major surgical procedures and post-operatively in intensive care.

1. Noblett SE, Snowden CP, Shenton BK, Horgan AF Randomised clinical trial assessing the effect of Doppler-optimized fluid management on outcome after elective colorectal resection. British Journal of Surgery 2006; 93:1069-1076
Oesophageal Doppler guided fluid management in patients undergoing bowel surgery reduces complications and length of hospital stay – a surgeon-led double blind randomised controlled trial View file

2. Wakeling HG, McFall MR, Jenkins CS, Woods WGA, Miles WFA, Barclay GR, Fleming SC Intra-operative oesophageal Doppler guided fluid management shortens postoperative hospital stay after major bowel surgery. Br J Anesth 2005; 95:634-42
Improved outcomes using flow-based ‘targeted volume management’ compared to a pressure-based approach to fluid delivery in bowel surgery View file

3. McKendry M, McGloin H, Saberi D, Caudwell L, Brady AR, Singer M Randomised controlled trial assessing the impact of a nurse delivered, flow monitored protocol for optimization of circulatory status after cardiac surgery. BMJ. 2004; 329:258
Nurse-led, post-cardiac surgery targeted volume management protocol reduces level of intensive care usage and shortens overall hospital stay View file
